Prof. dr. Carel Jansen is a professor emeritus in Communication and Information Studies at the University of Groningen (Faculty of Arts). He is also affiliated as a research fellow with the Language Centre at  Stellenbosch University in South Africa. 

Carel Jansen and his wife Marijke Meijer Drees live in Aduard, a small village in the northern part of the Netherlands that is famous for its church (part of the kloostermuseum) that was built in 1297 as an infirmary for the monks in the local monastery.
